Yesterday I went in for another doctor appointment (man they just keep coming!!) and I am currently 2 cm and 75% effaced. Now we've got mom pulling for pre-Christmas baby! Hopefully we get lucky! The doctor is estimating her to be about 7.5 lbs at birth, but she told us to ask her again as we get a little closer.
Also, I NEED to figure out what I am doing about the whole diaper bag situation. I really haven't been happy with anything I have found thusfar, and even Target and TJMaxx have let me down. So I need your advice. What bag do you/have you carried? Was it a traditional diaper bag? A large purse-like bag? A tote? What works/doesn't work? What do you actually need to put in that thing??

I have a SugarBooger bag that I love. I've downsized a little bit now that Evie doesn't nee much more than a sippy and some diapers. However, I would suggest a bag with an attached or detachable changing pad. You never know what ickies will be on the changing tables you'll end up using. My bag had a blanket, two chnages of clothes, two burp cloths, four diapers, wipes, baby tylenol, nail clippers, blub syringe, two pacies, a nursing sheild, and extra socks. If you can go to Costco, the one in Orem has the JJ Cole diaper bags for a good price and they are really really nice. My sister in law has one and I'm totally jealous.
I haven't had much luck in the diaper bag department either. They give you a free one at the hospital before you leave and I've been using that one. It has an adjustable strap that's nice. When you have a newborn, you'll need a bigger bag to fit everything in it. The post before mine listed a ton of great stuff to have. I would also include diaper rash medicine and some bibs. If I remember right, when you're breastfeeding, the baby's poop doesn't stink. If they're on formula, that's when it gets raunchy. I've found these AWESOME bags you can get at Walmart that are lightly scented and you put the poopy diaper in and it doesn't stink up the place where you're changing your baby. Also a travel size Lysol is good to have for air freshener or to sanitize. A little holder on the outside of your bag for a cell phone is good too. Now that Lawson is older, I have just a big purse I use when going out for short trips. I just keep a couple of diapers and wipes and bandaids. I use the actual diaper bag if we go out of town or to church. I think you'll figure out really quick what you do and don't need. Extra clothes for those newborns are needed. It seems like you're changing them constantly! I'm so excited for you. I hope she comes soon!!
I changed bags a lot. It depended on where we were going and for how long. Lots of time I would leave a bag with the extras in the car and just carry what I thought we would need. Right now I just put a diaper and wipes in my purse and a sippy and a snack, but times have changed. I usually just used the one we brought home from the hospital just because I didn't find one that I really wanted . At first you need an extra outfit or 2 depending on your childs pooping tendencies, some extra diapers, a paci or 2, wipes, antibacterial hand stuff, a burpcloth, a blanket, a changing mat. we also had an extra hat since he was born in the winter.
I didn't get a proper diaper bag till just last... Tuesday. Yes, Tuesday. :) She's 2 months old. lol
I was just using a small travel tote. It was pretty big and held everything. The bag I have now, I got because it's cute and it has enough space for everything I need.
It IS like a big purse which I like. It also has a little bottle bag that is insulated to keep the formula cool. Hopefully though you won't need to worry about that- that is, if you're planning on exclusively breastfeeding.
I found mine at Babies R Us and I really like it. Also, I put an extra set of clothes for Aria in it, receiving blankets, bottles, diapers, wipes, Purell, pacifier... and I think that's about it.
Also, my doctor guessed Aria would be 7.4lbs. Close to what your dr guessed. :)
I don't know what's best, but I've been looking too. I just found one online. it's a SkipHop Brand, called a Studio Diaper Tote. I love it, and I think it's just the right size for everything a newborn will need. I could probably use it after it's done being a 'diaper bag' too. Best of luck in the next few weeks!
